Dr. Sal Severe is currently the Clinical Director of Flor del Sol alternative school in the Cartwright School District in Phoenix, Az., where he is also the Chairperson of the Psychological Services Department. He has been a school psychologist for 22 years. He has concentrated his practice on children and adolescents with emotional and behavioral disorders and their families. He has also worked as a teacher, counselor, principal and director of special education. He provides field supervision for school psychology internships for Arizona State University and Northern Arizona University. He has conducted training for the Arizona Department of Education and the Arizona Department of Corrections.
The Executive Board of the Arizona Association of School Psychologists named Dr. Severe the Arizona School Psychologist of the Year 2001. Dr. Severe is on the Board of Advisors for Parents magazine.
His New York Times best-selling book, How To Behave So Your Children Will, Too! has sold over 600,000 copies and has been translated into twenty-one languages. His new book, How To Behave So Your Preschooler Will, Too! was released in July, 2002. His books are featured in Book of the Month Club and Children's Book of the Month Club.
Dr. Severe has appeared on more than 900 television and radio talk shows, including Oprah, the View with Barbara Walters, the Today show, the CBS Early Show, CNN's Your Health, The Learning Channel's program Teacher TV, MSNBC's Daytime, Fox Network's Fox on Family and National Public Radio. Dr. Severe has provided parenting chats on America Online, Parent Soup, and Parents.com.
In the past eighteen years, he has conducted more than 600 workshops across the United States. He has become known for his work with schools, churches and parent organizations, including the National Head Start Association, the Council for Exceptional Children, Tough Love, the Hemophilia Association and Phoenix Children's Hospital. Dr. Severe has provided training for the Intel Corporation, General Motors, SONY, Motorola, Honeywell, Texas Instruments, Pizza Hut, NAPA, Federal Express and Transamerica Occidental.
Dr. Severe has four children who consume the remainder of his energy and time, but without reservation, provide him with his greatest blessing and achievement.
